StoriesAnd Off We GoAnd Off We Go is a collection of stories for children (8 - 14 years). The goal of the collection is to encourage children to embark on fantasy journeys to foreign lands or different times. They take with them their own knowledge of the world and family, while during their travels they get to know different ways of life but similar relationships, fear or joy. My intention is to let the children know that many different peoples or groups of people live or have lived in the world, that every group has certain peculiarities we can look up to and make use of in the today's world, or simply see what range of places we can look for our small pieces of happiness in. Every story also focuses on individual family relations (father-son, mother-son, brothers, cousins, etc.), since in the today's society we know such a diversity of complicated immediate or extended families. The most important message is the realisation that we are all very much alike despite all the differences. We love our nearest and dearest, we laugh at a funny story, and we are upset by injustice, regardless of when, where in the world, and what family we were born into. Illustrations by Sara Šavelj are magnificent works of art in themselves, and they tell their own parallel stories. Through her illustrations we experience the magic of the Gentle South-western wind; she reveals the secrets of the Samurai code; and leads us through entangled family ties (family tree).
